This is a development location and western offset to the Markert Brown 1H well, a prolific Austin Chalk oil well drilled by Compass. The new field has produced in excess of 100,000 barrels of oil since mid-November, 2008.
Last year, Compass also successfully offset the Markert Brown 1H well approximately 1.5 miles to the southeast in its Kleinschmidt 1H well. Compass plans to drill five wells in the next few months with additional development wells planned in early 2010. Compass operates the project with 60 percent working interest including approximately 20,000 gross acres surrounding the wells.
Compass President Douglas Brooks said his team is excited to begin a development program on its asset along with its partner KA Compass LLC, a subsidiary of Kayne Anderson.
"The drilling program is designed to develop the Austin Chalk formation along with further delineation of the shallower Navarro formation and deeper Georgetown formation," Brooks said. " A deeper pool well will also test a seismically defined Edwards structure in the program".
